Per Vintage Wanna Bee's post...

"A LITTLE REQUEST FROM MY NEW LITTLE FRIEND ASHLEY
Hello fellow readers of Vintage Wanna Bee!
My name is Ashley, I'm 16 years old, and I'm from Houston, Texas. I'm a photographer, a bike rider, a pianist, a singer, an actress, a crafter, and a lot of other things.
This here is ME!
It took me a while to find a good recent picture of myself, because I'm kind of a goofball and I make super awkward faces in the majority of the pictures I take.. (Sorry the photo quality isn't great :/ )

Anyway, I'm here for a special reason. First let me give you a little background of me.

For four and a half years now, my father has been working for the State Department in Iraq. He comes home for vacations every couple months. It's been a long four years. More recently, my dad has lived on a military base, although he is not military. While he was home for Christmas, he was telling me a little more about the conditions at the base. They don't have real food at this particular base, just the "just add water" instant food. They don't have many luxuries. I wont give you all the details, but you can just imagine.

I was shocked to find this out. I wanted to do something special for those deployed men and women.

So I did.

I collected donations like Ramen Noodles, Crystal Light instant Lemonade packets, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deoderants, shampoos, and other basic necessities really. My idea was to send back an extra suitcase with my dad when he went back after Christmas vacation, a sort of "Suitcase for the Soldiers." However, donations poured in - people were bringing too much for me to send in just one suitcase. So, instead I shipped a trunk to Iraq for the soldiers, but the name "Suitcase for Soldiers" stuck and evolved into "Suitcase4Soldiers." I've sent a couple other shipments so far, with different themes.
You can visit the Suitcase4Soldiers Website
here. (http://suitcase4soldiers.bl

 Here are some pictures:

Well, there's another reason I'm here.
In April, I applied for a $5,000 grant for my project through Pepsi Refresh. On May 1, I found out that my application was accepted into the voting period. Currently, my project is ranked #12 out of a couple hundred, which is great!
but... I need your help!!!
I need to remain in the Top 20 through May 31 to be a Finalist. If I get the money, it will go into a special account to help out Suitcase4Soldiers and will cover shipping costs, cost to buy trunks and to buy items to send along.
Here's how you can help:
You can vote daily for my project. There are 3 ways to do so:

1. Visit
http://www.refr
esheverything.com/suitcase4soldiers
. Click "Vote for this idea." It will ask you to sign in. You can do so by using Facebook Connect or by creating an account with Pepsi. (It's very fast and easy - basic information like your name and email. It will send you a confirmation email, and then you're ready to go.) Once you have signed in, you will again need to go to http://www.refr
esheverything.com/suitcase4soldiers
and again click "Vote for this Idea." It will say "Thanks for voting!" You can do this once daily from now until May 31.

2. You can TEXT a vote. (Standard texting rates apply- all this means is as long as you have a texting plan, which most people do, you can do so. There is no extra charge for texting a vote.) Text 105672 to Pepsi (73774). You can do this once daily from now through May 31.

3. You can purchase specially marked Pepsi products (they'll say "Power Vote" on them). These products have a special 10 digit code either under the cap or inside the box. Go again to
http://www.refr
esheverything.com/suitcase4soldiers
and click "Power Vote for this idea" and enter in the special code for up to 100 extra votes. Then go back again to http://www.refr
esheverything.com/suitcase4soldiers
and use your Power Votes to vote. You can enter up to 10 codes per day through May 31.

So... Blog about it, Tweet it, Facebook it, Email it, tell your friends PLEASE! :)
It would be so cool if I could get this money to expand Suitcase4Soldiers!
By the way, my next shipment goes out June 1st to Afghanistan - My theme is Summer, I'm sending special 4th of July hand sanitizers and personal mini fans, because summers are HOT in the Middle East.

Oh hey! Grab the Suitcase4Soldiers Button for your blog!

Thank you all so much!!

~Ashley "
I voted today and I'll vote each day until my vacation.  I'll do what I can to pass the word & help Ashley reach her goals.  Hopefully this thoughtful young lady can get the funding she needs to help the great project she started.  It's a great cause!
When my nephew was over in Iraq (Army) we sent him packages all the time.  After a while we "adopted" some of his family less friends and sent them packages too.  It can get EXPENSIVE to shop packages overseas.
