Window Shopping Weekends: The All About Jewelry Etsy Wishlist

Welcome to the second edition of Window Shopping Weekends.  This weekend I'm doing another Etsy Wish list.  My hopes it to someday do some other kind of wish list but for now Etsy it is.  I picked jewelry I'm itching to get my hands on because of all the jewelry giveaways I've seen online this week.  I haven't added any of the items I've posted for giveaways because they are too obvious.

Excuse me while I complain & have an internal debate with myself

This has not been an easy week.  Some of the reasons why have been documented here and others have not.  I really don't want this to turn into a whinny blog but I do post what is on my mind.

Yesterday I posted this on FB...

 Yesterday at 8:16am · KerriF
What else?! My car is demanding that I fix it ASAP! And I think one of the cats (Remi??) has bloody diarrhea...gross, I know (I had to clean it up).

The cat situation is still up in the air.  I haven't had any more clean ups so I have no idea if there is still a problem or if there ever was one.  I'm monitoring the litter box as best I can and watching the cats for signs of not feeling well.  I don't know what else to do.  I don't have the funds to be an over cautious parent and take everyone in for a check up.

My car, however, is still demanding that I fix it ASAP!  All week all I've done is pray while driving.  My car acts like it'll stall at any moment, especially when I'm accelerating.  I've known for a while that my car needed to have work done.  I've been trying to limp it along until I could save up some more money and find someone who would fix it below shop prices.

Now that I've done that I need to figure out if I can actually afford fixing my car and still be able to go to Disneyland next month for one of my BFF's weddings to my other BFF's brother (who is in turn my "adopted" family).  Considering the wedding is for family I feel it's super important to go.  Plus, I don't get to go on vacations very often.  And it's DISNEYLAND!  I was basically gifted money for the 3 Day Park Hopper admission into Disneyland (in Disney GC's) so all I have to pay for is hotel (1/2) and food (I don't eat much, especially now).  I'm driving up (also staying with) my BFF & family so gas isn't a big deal either.  See I've got really good excuses to GO to Disneyland.  I can talk myself into anything I REALLY want to do.  It's a gift!

So with 'the break-up" changing my duel income living situation into a single income living situation my monthly funds are a bit stretched to the limit.  At least, for the next month since there are stupid apartment complex rules like '30 day notices' and stuff.  Even if it's only for a stupid garage/storage unit.  I even get to re-qualify for my apartment, even though I qualified for it BY MYSELF prior to Will moving in & adding his name.  Sorry, it's a sore subject...that is another story, one that I will not mention in length.  Anyway, coming up with the money to fix my car AND to go to Disneyland next month will pretty much eat up my savings.

I guess I'm just complaining.  I know it.  And, again, I'm sorry for it but I need an outlet and lucky for you THIS is it.  The cats, while good listeners good at hearing the words you say to them, aren't great at giving the feedback.

I have a quote from a friend ("of a friend") of $350.00 to fix the spark plugs on my car.  I was quoted from a shop (non-dealer) of $592.00 so that's a pretty good difference.  The only better option I heard is one that isn't really an option anymore because of the break-up.  We never really finished talking about that option so I have no idea the end results but it was basically just paying for parts.

According to the quote I got from the shop parts go like this...
Plugs $120.00
Wires $137.00
Intake Manifest Gasket $15.00
Total $272.00
(The mark up with labor is horrendous, isn't it?!)

I may, also, need:
Cylinder 6 Coil Pack $360
Both the shop & the friend aren't sure I actually need this so it's not in the $350.00 price.  It's a we'll worry about it when we need to kind of thing.

And if you are keeping track adding the coil pack to the shop quote we're up to $1038.00 with parts & labor now.

Oh, and it was suggested that I replace my Timing Belt $485.00 total (shop).

Which, per the shop, brings my grand total to $1,517.00

See why I ignored the suggestions and limped along for as long as I have?!  My car isn't even worth the $350.00 it looks like I'll be paying to fix it.  Having a working car is worth $350.00 though, right??  Yes, I guess it is, considering I don't live in a cute little quaint town.  I living in a sprawling suburbia.  I work in two different cities.  The public transit options are nowhere near where I live...or work.  Carpooling is out of the question too.

Okay, see how I did that.  I just talked myself into liking the price of $350.00 for repairs.  Luckily, I haven't had much of an appetite lately because after paying for my car I won't have much in the way of grocery money.  At least, not this month.

Oh, and I won't even get into my upcoming family reunion over the July 4th weekend.  It's up in Utah and while I won't need to have money for a place to stay I will need a way to get there.  Did you hear that?  I'm pretty sure it was the ring of a cash register.  But, again, that is another story and worry for another day.

I am not Twiggy or a Victoria Secrets Angel

This is NOT me....

But I did buy that dress from Forever 21 (in Navy) on a whim...
As you can see it was only $10.  It's SOOO comfy!!  Plus, I love the belt I bought to go with it ($7).

The problem is
a) its fairly see through, especially in the sun
b) I am no the model in the top photo, I am not anywhere NEAR flat chested so I don't (ie. can't) have a strapless bra.

Since I wanted the dress SOOO much I rationalized in my brain that wearing a spaghetti strap tank & my bra under the dress looked fine.  Now that I am over my high of shopping I think the whole top part looks like crap on me.

I forgot to take some pictures this morning when I was trying to decide if I really wanted to keep this dress or not.  I'd been trying to get photo's with me in the dress since I bought it.
Obviously, that never happened.

I'm not sure if it's my body shape or my fashion sense but I've never been able to pull off tanks under strapless dresses or tops.  Rarely can I even pull off tanks under spaghetti straps for that matter.  I see girls do it all the time and they look so super cute!

I am so super bummed but I am going to have to go take this dress back.  I've turned over a new leaf and am no longer keeping clothing that doesn't fit or look the way I want.  I'm saving both money and closet space this way.  Plus, it also helps with my self esteem because every time I try the items on I feel horrible about my body.

I've tried other Maxi dresses but they've always been too long and made me look like a short little troll.  This dress is totally too long, if I kept it I'd have to hem it a few inches but somehow it didn't make me look short.
It, also, made me look super skinny.
Okay, so now I'm even more bummed about taking the dang dress back.  Maybe I'll have to go get ANOTHER opinion.

I SPY Wednesday: Jewelry & Shoe Edition

Jewelry.  Shoes.  Two of my favorite things!  When I first heard that those two may be our subject for this week's I SPY I was excited.  Then life happened.  With everything that's been going on this week I haven't had much time to devote to the subject.

Also, with all this photo taking & blog hopping I'm getting some serious camera envy going on.  I'm doing the best with what I have.  It's been a good little camera but I'm noticing it is now rather limiting in it's functions.

Well, it is what it is.  So on to the show...

Aside from the cross necklace these are the pieces I usually wear daily.

My necklace & earrings from C(dot) Designs

A close up, the tag says 'Let It Be'

My new catchall dish/tray (Ross, $1.99) but I didn't literally mean for it to catch ALL.  When things get hectic I get messy.  Unfortunately, here is the proof.

A closer view...I spy  my Giving Key, I spy a lot of rings from Charming Charlies, I spy a few things I got a Kohl's, I spy a lot of things from Target.  I also spy the ring the singer of Live Oak Revue made me.

Here I spy a necklace I got at Target (Clarence, $4.95) & the guitar pick I snagged at the Jimmy Eat World Concert when Jim Adkin's chucked it.

This crap picture of the necklace shows a peek inside my jewelry box.  Again most of what you see is from Target or Kohl's.

I spy a necklace my sister gave me, I don't wear it... I draped it off a birdhouse on a shelf, it says 'Believe'.

I spy hooks that I hang my longer necklaces on.  There's at least eight on the left hook and four on the right.

I spy a LOT of flip flops.

I spy my favorite heels EVER!  Marc Fisher is my hero for designing these beauties!

I spy two pairs of shoes (Clarence, Target, $4.95 & $6.95).  I rarely wear them but they don't have boxes so they get moved around a lot.  I needed new brown shoes, couldn't decide so I brought both pairs home.

I spy my Converse collection.  It's in chronological order of my most favorite on.  Sadly, I am not done adding to this collection.

The end pair are knock offs I got at Target eons ago but still love.  They are black with little white pinstripes.

I spy a bracelet (H&M) that I didn't end up wearing this morning.  No, it did not get put in the correct spot after I took it off.

I spy the necklace I am wearing today (Target, $14.99).  In fact, everything you see right here is from Target (tank, necklace & sweater)

My favorite shoes (Forever 21).  Never thought I'd like a pair of shoes like this or that I'd buy shoes from F21 but I did and I do!  Plus, I spy my toe ring (gift) that I never take off.  I have the indent on my toe to prove it.  Also, don't mind my toes...I am in DESPERATE need of a pedicure.  Sorry.

Chillin' & messing around with my camera.

This is why I don't take photo's of myself.  Awkward & bad.

I spy Cyrus in the background.  He is neither jewelry or shoes but he sure is cute!

I spy my boys...who seem to be getting along better these days.  This here is a RARE sight!  I had to share it with you.  Usually, Cyrus refuses to be in the same room as Remington.
Oh and in case any of you were worried....Remington is staying with me, Parker & Cyrus.  Will & I figured he'd be happier staying where he was.  YAY!

Join me at Little Miss Momma for the I SPY game!

Weird Encounters

Last night while running into Target to grab much needed cat food & a new laundry basket I had a very odd encounter with the cashier whose line I got into.

We did the normal pleasantries...
"Hi, how are you?"
"Fine, thanks.  How are you?" and I sort of thought that was that.

Nope, while scanning my items the dude just randomly says,
"Girls are bad people!"
Um...okay.  "Not all of them, and boys can be bad people too."
"Yeah," he said, "I just broke up with my girlfriend."
"That sucks. I just broke up with my boyfriend."
"Why?"
Oh, okay, we're really getting into this...*Sigh*
"Hum...we just weren't the right fit."
"Did you think he had a motor mouth?"
"Um...no..."  ??
"Girls suck!"
*Uncomfortable laugh*
"You are too young to have girl problems."
"Yeah, maybe I should have been going out... running around...."
He looked no more than 17 years old and the way he said it made it seem to me that his girlfriend cheated on him or something. Poor guy.

Luckily, my transaction was done and there were now people behind me because I think he would have continued the odd conversation if he had been able to.  I felt bad for the kid but I don't think the topic was one he should have been having with a complete stranger.

Then today I had a strange encounter at work.  I was working...minding my own business... and my co-worker came in (she was out running an errand) and asks
"Do you have a computer chair in the back of my car?"
"Um...no."
"Are you sure?"
Hum, let me think about this one..."Um...No!"
"Huh, I swear that is your car out there...with a chair in the back."
So I go to the window and check.  Sure enough there was a chair in the back of my car.

Seems there was an office in the building that was moving out this morning and they were using everyones car who worked there to load stuff up.  Since my car was mixed in with theirs (I was parked in my spot before they got there) and was unlocked (it doesn't lock.  Not unless I want it to stay locked FOREVER!) they just figured it was one of theirs.

I ran out there to let them know that that was not their car and the poor main guy was so embarrassed.  It was funny but I felt bad for him.  He apologized profusely.  The young girls helping him thought it was HILARIOUS and kept giving him a hard time.  I let him know I didn't care that they accidentally put it in my car but I didn't want to end up "stealing" their chair.  LOL.

It gave us a good laugh at work this morning at least.

Still at a loss

You know how they say that at about day 3 it's the hardest and/or most painful.  It's true.  I know most of the time when you hear those type of words it's in referral to working out or an injury or whatnot.  It, also, seems to refer to heartache as well.  So far today has been the hardest.

I've been struggling since leaving for work this morning to not lose it.  I've been totally sick to my stomach and have been since before getting out of bed.  Well, in truth, I've been sick to my stomach since the shit started hitting the fan Friday night.  The severity of it comes and goes and so far today is one of those days I'm just praying that I don't ralph all over my desk.

Yesterday I held it together until on the way home and then the sadness hit HARD.  By the time I got off the phone with Will I had a total melt down in the kitchen.  Since Parker & Cyrus have been through this MANY times before they seem to understand.  Remington, on the other hand, has no clue what is going on when I cry and starts acting all weird.  He's half intrigued by me & half scared to death.  He doesn't get that all I need is a big furry hug so he's very standoffish when I try for one when he crawls into my lap to investigate.

Saturday I was a mess after it happened & for a while after but once I made up my mind to pull myself together and go to my BFF's family Easter dinner I was "fine".  I may have been in a state of shock since then, maybe it's starting to wear off.

I don't think it helped that Will was calling last night to let me know he moved his stuff out of our storage & to see if today would be a good day to talk about the things that we still need to settle.  Maybe that's why I'm in such a state today.  Tonight will not be fun.  It will be painful.  It will be sad.  It will no doubt be hard.

Last night I made a list of things we have to go over and it seems small considering we were together for 2 years and lived together for over a year.  Then, at the same time, it seems like a long list.  It's the longest list I've made (mentally or physically) after a break up... unless you count my divorce but I'm not, so you shouldn't either.

I haven't really slept since the 2 hour nap I took Friday night after work.  Since then it's been dosing off spells and restless bouts of sleep.  I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We're trying to work it out that Will gets his most of his stuff tonight before I get home and he'll help me move my stuff out of storage back into the apartment tomorrow night since it won't fit in my car.  Hopefully, between tonight and tomorrow we can get things worked out and...finished, I guess.

The conversation we're going to have tonight isn't one I want to have over the phone but it's the way it's going to work out.  I can't leave it another night, there's too much uncertainty & worry to carry another 24 hours.

Voices of Autism: 'Please Understand'

My friend Josie, who you can read here and here, is someone I've never met in person but is someone I've followed on-line for over a year now and fell in love with even before we first 'met'.  She's friends with my BFF, who felt both Josie & I would get along great, but she moved away before we got to actually meet.  She's just recently moved back into the area & I am hoping that we will be able to have some face time in the near future.

She's someone I am honored to know and this article will only show you one little reason why.  She wrote an article & it was published on Parents.com...

April 26, 2011 at 7:00 am , by Michael Kress

Every day throughout April–Autism Awareness Month–we will be featuring a different reader-submitted story about living with autism. Today’s story was written by Josie Texidor, mother of Collin, 10, and Drew, 3, and author of the blog Lucyshouse Blog.

texidor

I am a mother.  I have three kids, two on the autism spectrum who also struggle with sensory processing.  This fact permeates pretty much all factors of our lives.  It determines which events we choose to go to, when and where we vacation, and which foods we eat.

It has created constant stress around school.  The phone ringing during school hours brings a jump to my stomach and an automatic, “uh oh” from my lips.  What happened now?

Instead of sports or music activities, we’re more concerned with getting speech, occupational, or social therapy set up–and making sure insurance will cover it.  Birthday parties, while exciting, are also scary.  How will my child react to all the change and noise?

Autism brings us shaking heads and wagging fingers from elderly people in stores.  It brings looks of disapproval from mothers with pretty little girls looking quietly at their dolls.  Autism brings uninformed teachers labeling your child with a scarlet “D” for delinquent before they even get out of kindergarten.

Every parent has this to a certain degree. I know that. But what people without autism in their lives don’t understand is that the judgment is so constant. You know that every-once-in-a-while interaction you have because of a bad day? It is a common occurrence in our house.   And not because our kids are bad kids–in fact, they’re amazing, thoughtful, creative and loveable. Just like your kids. They just have autism.

The issues autistic kids struggle with shows itself behaviorally. Some parents may think the way they parent would create a different outcome. But trust those of us in this growing autism community when we say that it would never happen.  You can’t parent autism away.  We’re all trying hard, day and night.  We love our kids fiercely and fight for them daily. The very fact that we work so hard makes those “lazy parenting” looks sting even more.

My natural inclination is to feel every one of those judgmental moments to the core. But somewhere along the way I learned I have to be thick-skinned to parent a child with autism.  I try to do the best I can and ignore the ignorant judgers around me, but being human, it still gets to me at times.

So do you want to know what you can do?  Being an ear to your friend is good. Talking about autism awareness is even better. But do you know what will change their world?

If you understand.

It is almost painfully simple.

Understand that our kids try so, so hard.  Much of the time the world feels like a bombardment of the senses.  Restaurants have noises that cling and clang, which feels like nails down a chalkboard to my child.

Understand that if my child covers his ears when your baby cries, he’s not being overdramatic or rude.  It truly is hurting him.

Understand that if my child is playing with his iPad at the table while we eat, we’re enjoying the fact that we’re able to be there and the distraction makes it possible to be out as a family. It’s not because we don’t enjoy each other’s company.

Understand that my child is whining because, although he is 3 1/2 years old, he is still learning to speak.  In fact, he just started using three-word sentences!  The whining is a work in progress.  And, just trust me, we’re working on it.

Understand that I have researched, I have prayed, and I have cried over my children.  I have also cherished every moment I’ve had with them and celebrated their amazing accomplishments.  They are treasures that I feel blessed to have given the chance to walk this life with.
Remember when you see someone having a hard time and you think you understand why, you’re only seeing 30 seconds of that persons life.  Look past the 30 seconds.

Understand.

Please understand, because before being a special needs mother, I was simply human, simply a person, simply a friend.  Just like you.
