I Think I'm Blushing...

and I'm totally cracking up right now...

·         Jason Mraz via Facebook/Twitter
"Good day gorgeous. Yea I'm talking to you."

I just saw this & it reminded me I had an increadably (awesome) inappropriate dream about Jason Mraz last night.

Seeing his post almost makes me want to look over my shoulder, just in case...

30 Days of Music: Day 9

Day 09 - A song that you can dance to:

A song that you can dance to…seems like a strong statement to me seeing as I can’t actually dance.  Anyone who’s ever used the word dance in referrence to what I do has been very generous.  Anyway, everytime I hear  ‘Tik Tok’ by Ke$sha I wanna get up & dance.

I should probably be ashamed to admit that but I’m not.  It’s no secret really, especially if you’ve every been around when it’s come on while I’m in Will’s truck with the windows down…you’ve seen & heard the show.

ITSO An Eyesore…

With my mounting obsession with jewelry I’ve run out of space in my jewelry box, and the necklace hanger has finally gone onto that big place in the sky (it’s only about as old as I am, I inherited it from my Nana).  Having jewelry lurking around in no particular place or all jumbled up in what jewelry holders I have is no longer working for me.  Picking jewelry out for the day sends dread all over my body some mornings.  Most days I just wear what I wore the day before so I don’t have to deal with it all.

Anyway, while wandering Target last night I found a sale in the storage/bin area.  I’d never noticed much in this section before aside from the bins that slide under the bed.  Apparently they now have a whole section of products that you can mix & match that all fit together called 'itso'.  I found some of their plastic storage bins on clearance & figured I could build my own jewelry bin box.  I substituted some of the plastic bins they have with little trinket boxes I found in the dollar section and have left the bottom section open to fill in later with whatever I may need.

Since I only bought what was on clearance my color choices were limited.  By limited I mean I had a choice of blue storage cubes or blue storage cubes.

In the little stackable square bins I had orange/green or orange/green.

In the narrow trays I had white or white.
Target only had red shown

I think you get my drift.  I had the most options with the boxes I found in the dollar section as there were three different patterns.  They were all in the same color schemes but there were big dots, little dots, and zig zags.  I would have gone all big dots but there were only two left.  So I grabbed one little dot to place in-between to shake things up a bit.  For the most part all the colors go well enough together considering.  Luckily where I plan for the unit to go is in my closet which I keep closed at all times, except for when in use, and even sometimes then I close it behind me to keep the cats out (especially Remington since he tends to get into trouble whenever he sneaks in there and by trouble I mean he makes a huge mess if possible).

The unit should work will with the ghetto fabulous lingerie dresser I now use.  It’s a Sterilite 3 drawer unit.  Stacked together I can only imagine who rockin’ it will all be.  Hopefully, it’ll be functional but sometimes the great ideas in my head aren’t so great in the real world.  Guess I will find out tonight.

ghetto fabulous lingerie dresser
mine is clear drawers with blue structure

I could stop letting the pretty red clearance tags catch my eye (they’re almost as eye catching to me as pretty sparkly diamonds) and pay for an actual jewelry box that would hold all my bobbles but that would cost me more than I am willing to pay at the moment.   It’s the same reason I’m still using a plastic unit for my lingerie drawer.  I have a list of furniture I want & I keep wavering on if a new couch or dresser should be at the top of the list.  We won’t even get into the fact that I can’t find/decide the actual dresser or couch I want…

Jewelry boxes like this cost anywhere from $399 to $4,000
when I did a search
sorry it's blurry but grabbing photos off the internet is tricky sometimes

Anyway, once I’ve finished my project I’ll post a picture.

30 Days of Music: Day 8

Day 08 - A song that you know all the words to:

Well I know the words to just about every song I’ve listened to more than twice but I guess I could just pick one…

I’m picking ‘If U C Jordan’ by Something Corporate due to a dream nightmare I had last night about someone who is the epitome of this song.

That this person can still pop up and give me nightmares annoys me to no end!

30 Days of Music: Day 7

Day 07 - A song that reminds you of a certain event:

‘Alive’ by Think of England/Libbie Schrader

It’s a song written for or inspired by 9/11.  It was released in July 2002.  I found Think of England thanks to Jewel (they opened for her Soul City CafĂ© program, which opened three shows on her This Way tour, one being here in Phoenix). Think of England has since broken up & it’s almost impossible to find anything online about them anymore.  The lead singer Libbie Schrader is still floating around making music, though unsigned, and she’s just as faboulous as ToE was.  You can find a full version of ‘Alive’ on her MySpace page…

Here's a link to a sample of 'Alive'

And finally part of the lyrics:

...
remember all the days we’ve wondered
Every day we felt numb
…

remember we all woke up
to find the world burned to the ground
and on that day
when the summer turned to autum
we didn’t live we just survived
did we remember
when it finally hit the bottom

that hey, we’re alive
we’re alive
hey, you’re alive
you’re alive

30 Days of Music: Day 6

‘Get the Party Started’ – Pink

It’s totally the theme song for our Seesterhood trips to Laughlin.

I think we’ve blasted this song on the last stretch from Bullhead City into
Laughlin on just about every girls trip we’ve taken there.

30 Days of Music: Day 5

Day 05 - A song that reminds you of someone:

Every time I hear the Black Eyed Peas song ‘Boom Boom Pow’ I think of my great-nephew Dylan.  He LOVED that song & would sing it non-stop.  If he was in the car he’d wave his hands all around like he was techno dancing or scratching a record or something.  When not in the car he’d wander around doing the same thing until he’d bust into dance.  It was so freaking cute because he was like 3.

30 Days of Music: Day 4

Day 04 - A Songs that makes you sad:

‘Brick’ by Ben Folds Five

‘Caves’ by Jack’s Mannequin

The video is a short version Jack's teased us all with prior to the record coming out.  It stops right before the most poignant part of the song...

'What Sarah Said' by Death Cab for Cutie

‘Torn’ by Toad the Wet Sprocket

'Caves' (for the full lyrics click on the title)
....
The walls are caving in
As far as I can see
The walls are caving in
The doors got locked for sure
There's no one here but me

Beat my body like a rag doll
you stuck the needles in my hip
Said 'we're not gonna lie
Son, you just might die
Get you on that morphine drip, drip'

The walls are caving in
As far as I can see
The walls are caving in
The doors got locked for sure
There's no one here but me

I fought a war to walk a gang plank
Into a life I left behind
Windows leading to the past
Think it's time I broke some glass
Get this history off my mind

And what if we were married forever?
Like the past never happened
And time did not exist for us at all
I still think we'd still be traveling together
Through all kinds of weather
Everything's a piece of everyone

As far as I can see
Walls are caving in
Doors got locked for sure
But I see these doors have keys

Walls are caving in
As far as I can see
The walls are caving in
Doors got locked for sure
There's no one here but me
There's no one here but me
No one here but me, yeah.
There's no one here but me
No one here but me

30 Days of Music: Day 3

Day 03 - A song that makes you happy:

How about we change today's question to...
A Songs that makes you happy:

Not that that makes it any easier to answer really.  I do know that when I think of happy music I think Jason Mraz.  Since his music makes me happy so I have to start (and stop) there.

I picked songs that got my blood pumping.  The one’s that make me wanna get up and go.  Or one’s that make it impossible to sit in my car and not dumb car dance while singing along…even though I’m stopped at a light, with all the windows down.  Those are the times that you hope you have the volume up loud enough to drown you out.

30 Days of Music: Day 2

Day 02 - Your least favorite song:

Um…I’ll Be by Edwin McCain.  I have my ex-husband to blame for this one.  I cannot even explain the reaction this song gives me when I hear it on the radio.  It's just not good.

Blah...I can’t even think about it.

Since March is looking to be the concert month I figured I’d start 30 Days of Music.

I’ve held off on doing this one because just looking at the questions is incredibly hard. My brain goes into overload. There are just far too many songs out there. My love for music is far too large to be able to single out just one favorite anything but I will try to figure out each day’s question with the best answer for that day.

Anyway, here goes…

TOAD THE WET SPROCKET IS COMING!  TOAD THE WET SPROCKET IS COMING!

Did you hear the news?!...

TOAD THE WET SPROCKET IS COMING!

I have been waiting for this day for...well, for a really long time!  They were my first "big" concert back in high school and unfortunately I have no memory of the epic concert I was at.  How I have no memory of Toad the Wet Sprocket and The Lemonheads concert is beyond me.  If I didn't still have the ticket stub & the old journal entry I wouldn't even know I'd been there that night.

To be fair I was extremely claustrophobic back then & large crowds were no friend of mine! I'd spend most of my time at concerts trying to hold my shit together and not freak the F out.  My boyfriend at the time was in a band(or few) so I attended a whole hell of a lot of concerts, both for his band(s) and for any band he/they idolized.  It hasn't been until recient years that I've even been able to enjoy a concert.  I decided I wasn't going to let my stupid irrational fear continue to ruin my love of music so I got over it.  Or more I figured out ways to deal with it when it creeps up since it still comes to visit at nearly every concert I attend.

The last weekend of March is going to be a big one.  Two concerts in 4 days is crazy!  Especially since the last concert I attended (Something Corporate) had my hearing screwed up for about 2 weeks.  I can only imagine how bad it's going to get after attending 2 concerts 2 days apart at the Marquee.

I CANNOT wait!!

Here we go again...

The funny thing is I was wondering when I'd be getting some good concert notifications on my drive into work this morning... Guess someone was listening.

Spreading the Love

In honor of Valentine's Day I've decided to tempt fate & spread some love around.  Maybe ward off the bad juju that normally finds me on this day each year.

In recient days I've seen some great things (for lack of a better word) on love so I figured jot them down here & save them for prosperity.

Give yourself a hug, pass it on :) *

The Charles Schulz Philosophy

I'm not one to forward e-mails but I will every once in a while when I think something is really cool.  This is cool so I figured instead of filling every ones inbox I'd just post it here for all to see.

The Charles Schulz Philosophy
(This is marvelous!! There are two sets of questions.
Scroll slowly and read carefully to receive and enjoy full effect)

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip.

You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them.
Just read the e-mail straight through, and you'll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers.
They are the best in their fields.

But the applause dies..
Awards tarnish..
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson:

The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the
most credentials, the most money...or the most awards.
They simply are the ones who care the most
