Tee Time

So I was chosen to do another Old Navy Sample Share as part of the Old Navy Style Council via Crowdtap.  The coupons were for 2 FREE Women's Best Tees for me and 2 FREE Women's Best Tees for a friend.

Old Navy Style Council via Crowdtap

Usually I choose who I take with me by their "need" for the item, and since this sample share was for tees it seemed like everyone was in need new tees.  So I did the "logical" thing... I decided to picked 3 people and we'd all get 1 FREE tee.  I chose my trusty side kick, the BFF Karie, my sister (still rebuilding her closet since gaining some much needed weight from when she stopped smoking) and my niece who was pregnant.  It pretty much worked out well because Karie was more available for shopping/photo time, while my sister & niece weren't.  My sister was in a pretty bad car accident (a couple weeks before the coupons were active) where she fractured a vertebrae in her back & messed up her ribs and my niece was about to give birth (she had the baby about a week prior to the coupon's expiring).

It wasn't the best timing for a sample share ever, nor did I necessarily pick the "best" candidates to go shopping, but they all deserved a new tee and it all worked out.

Of course the day Karie and I went shopping was the day that the Old Navy we went to was PACKED.  Like a crazy, insane, madhouse of activity.  The shelves were a mess, there wasn't many choices size-wise and we waited in line to try things on for 20 - 30 minutes each the two times we dared to go to the dressing rooms.  We did the best we could with what we had and both ended up with a shirt we liked.

Karie & I both in Women's Perfect Henleys.
Secret Cove & Bright Nite

My sister, Georgie, was set to meet me after work to get her & my nieces tees on the last day before the coupon expired but had to opt out because her back was bothering her too badly so she sent my niece to stop by & gab them instead.  Between the new baby (my great nephew Hunter... who is a complete stud!) and her husband being in town for "maternity leave" (he's in the Navy) she didn't have a lot of time but we managed to find a shirt she liked and between the two of us figured out what size, style & color to get my sister.  And as a bonus Elizabeth was kind enough to throw on her shirt (over her clothes) and let me snap a picture of her in the parking lot of her in her new shirt.

Elizabeth in her black stripped Women's Perfect Crew Tee

We got my sister a Perfect Henley, as well, but in Sea Turtle.  Although I don't have a photo of her in her's... she loves it.

I think the Perfect Henley's are my favorite Old Navy tee.  I have a lot of their Henley tanks (which I can't find on their website).  I guess there's just something about little buttons that make them stand out more.  So cute!

For the BEST Tee sample share we had the Perfect Tees and the Vintage style (no prints) tees to choose from.  The sizing on the Vintage was a bit off (at least for my...unique frame) and there wasn't a lot of the crew/v-neck Perfect tees in my size to try on.  Here are some of the tees Karie & I tried on but didn't choose...

Update Dump

There are so many things I feel like I've been kicking ass at lately.  Unfortunately, keeping up with things on here isn't one of them.  I still have a few hang ups I need to get over when it comes to journaling... or blogging... All I can say is it's still a work in progress.

1) I guess I should start with an update on how donating all my Crowdtap points to TWLOHA is going.  Since my last update on the subject I've earned some 96,000+ points doing stuff on/for Crowdtap.  I've been able to donate 80,000 pts ($40).  That's double what I was hoping/thinking.  I've almost got enough to donate another 20,000 ($20) but we'll see if I make it there before things change or not.  The ebb and flow of things to do on Crowdtap lately has been a bit wonky, at least with what I "qualify" for.

I'm pretty happy that since learning about TWLOHA I've been able to donate (if my calculations are correct) 210,000 points ($105).  It doesn't seem like nearly enough, considering why and who I'm doing it for, but when you think about what I've done to get these points (and I only had to click a button to spend them on a monetary donation) it really is a little insane that I've been able to donate that much.

Through a bloggy "friend" I've come across a charity event that I will be donating to once I get paid on the 1st (it won't be much but it will be something).  It's the Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk (put on by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or AFSP) and will be taking place June 1-2 in Washington, DC.  I'll be helping a walker named Janice, who is walking in honor of her brother who committed suicide, reach her goal... which is to raise $700.  To hear it in her words (from my bloggy "friends" post) you can go here.

I've been extremely lucky that I have not lost a brother to suicide but Nathan was, at times, like a brother...was definitely like family and he was (is) a brother to people I care deeply about.  He was my friend and donating in his memory is the least I can do, especially if it helps other people, people like Janice, raise money and awareness for the prevention of suicide.

I'm not trying to be all "Hey, look at how great I am...I'm donating!" and I hope it doesn't come off that way.  I'm just trying to get the word out there and talking about who and what I'm donating to is one of the small things I can do to help this cause.

2) I received my last exchange package from Shabby Apple... and the third time was the charm. Not only do I love the belt & shoes I picked but they fit!

RipRap
I've yet to wear either of them but I hope to soon and I hope to get some sort of documentation.  Because they are THAT cute!

3) It's been a month since I opened my Kitsy Lane boutique, KittyKerri's Jewelry Box (yes, I changed the name to match my email & blog [I, guess])... thankfully, you get a grace period to make changes like that.  Anyway, I'm definitely not rolling in the money yet but I do feel like I'm making some progress on getting my name out there to customers.  I've made 2 sales that are not from myself.  I've got 18 customers signed up and as of right now my KKJB FB page,  has 48 "Like's",  and it's only 2 weeks old.

So far I really love being a boutique owner (you can become one too here).  I like that there are several new items every day and that there is always a new sale or deal going on.

I'm still waiting for a shipment to come in of stuff I've purchased.  I'm not sure exactly if I'll be keeping all of what I bought for myself (selfish, I know) or if I'll be using some as giveaway prizes. I guess it all depends on how hard I fall in love with the pieces once I get my hands on them.

I purchased the Ariel ring for the simple pleasure of I LOVED it. Thank God I had no intention of giving it away because it would have never happened.  I've worn it every day for the past 16 days. It's so pretty, delicate, and easily stackable with my other everyday favorite rings.

I love the packaging!

I mean, come on!  Seriously!!

She's so pretty, isn't she?!

4) And just because this actually happened TODAY and I would be a horrible aunt if I didn't post about this... My great nephew, Hunter Austin, was born this morning.  Healthy, happy, 6 lbs 12 oz 19 3/4 inches and soooo cute!!

Posted to Instagram this morning:
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride...
*blah, blah, blah
(*had real words here but they are redundant at this point)

He's my 9th great nephew/niece, I have 8 nieces/nephews and yes, babies still scare me.  LOL.

So that's it for now.  Until next time... where I will probably update dump about Andrew McMahon, dieting, and dating...or lack there of.  Oh, and bras.  I know, ya'll can't wait!

Welcoming 2013... or not.

While my goal list for 2012 wasn't an epic fail, one cannot call it a huge success either.  I figured as 2012 ended and 2013 began I'd be full of excitement, hope and resolve and while I did feel all of those things I wasn't overwhelmed by it all.  More than anything I was just extremely grateful that 2012 had finally come to an end.  So far all I've felt for 2013 is... dread.  Maybe that's what I feel, maybe it's not but it is the word that came to mind.  I'm not 100% sure what "it" is exactly but if you asked me how I felt about 2013 all you'd get is an unceremonious "meh".

While it is a new year, it is still marked by Nathan's passing.  Side note: Can we agree that passing is a dumb term.  Unfortunately, it's the most polite word I can come think of.  Anyway... Friday, the 18th marks the 1 year anniversary of his suicide and it is tainting things more than I thought it would.  Normally I am excited for January.  It is my birthday month, after all, but this year I don't necessarily feel like it is MY month.  Not with the 18th looming all big and rudely right after my birthday on the 17th.  It sort of takes all the fun out of it all.

I do suppose after this year it will be a bit easier, the taking back of my birthday and my birth month.  I will always share it with Nathan and this unfortunate event but I'm guessing it won't always be so hard.  The first anniversary of anything is always a big deal.  After that it just sort of because a "normal" thing, I guess.   Mind you, I don't object sharing my birth month, week, whatever with Nathan but I do mind the fact of why we now share it.  Sadly, no matter my objection, the reasoning for it cannot be changed so I just have to find a way to accept it and find a new way of looking at it all.

I honestly didn't start this entry with Nathan and his suicide in mind.  I had more or less planned on talking about my reasoning for not  having any resolutions this year or making a list of goals this time around.  Somehow it's snowballed and I have lost the structure I was aiming for.  Anyone ever wondering why I don't update as much as I used to or in general... this is why.  It's a big ol' rambling mess up in my brain and it is getting harder and harder to figure it all out enough to articulate it onto here, or anywhere else for that matter.  Journaling has not been my strong suit in 2012.  My personal journal is sadly bare of most happenings of 2012 and there are a few things that really needed to be written about.

Back to my original point.  I decided to not make any resolutions or goals for this year.  Really, what is the point?  All we ever do is forget about them, half ass them, or become bored and quit.  More so than not only a few months into the new year.  The best resolution, and the only one infallible is making the resolution to NOT make a resolution.  That, my friends, seems to be fail proof.  Which of us who has ever made the resolution to NOT make a resolution has failed and been all resolutiony the rest of the year?!  Yeah, that's what I thought, thank you for backing up my point.

I thought about just making a general resolution, something like "To live bravely" but ultimately decided against that.  I feel I managed a bit of that statement last year but having lived almost a full 35 years on this Earth, I've come to realize that there is always fear.  No matter how brave we become or are, we always have some small amount of fear.  It doesn't always stop us but it is there and it does affect how daring we are as we live out our own definition of bravely.  I know I didn't say "to live without fear" but to be brave you have to silence the fear you hear and so it's not just about being brave to me anymore; it becomes about being brave and silencing fear and that just seems like too much of a specific resolution and no longer makes it a general resolution.

Yes, this is what my brain is like all day, every day, 365 days a year.  Welcome.  Yeah, I don't blame you for not wanting to grab some popcorn & pulling up a comfy chair.

Really, it's not all doom and gloom over here but it does seem to be spewing all over this post right now.  Sorry to be a bit of a downer.

My goal for 2013 is to survive it, and to hopefully do it with some sanity intact.  I don't see that as a resolution because it is something that has to be done.  I don't know how else to explain it but it just doesn't seem like a good candidate for being a proper New Years Resolution.

I dread the fast approaching month of March.  There are many things crowding up the calender for March, most of which are happy, joyful events.  I will welcome a new great nephew and I will see two people I care about get married.  But clouding the month of March is the fact that (as of today's date) it is still the month in which at the end of it Irish goes back to Ireland.  Depending on how things go and how hectic they get at the end those happy March happenings may not be something I get to fully share with Irish.  That seriously makes me sad.  That cloud has always been looming over but back on the warm summer night after Irish and I first met it just didn't seem so dark.

So with January now being what it is and March/April being what it will be I find it hard to happily looking forward to 2013.  I will admit that even with the first 3 or 4 months of 2013 looking gloomy they are far brighter and better than those beginning months of 2012 and I am delighted by that fact.  I am.  Really, I am but I would love to not have a "but" at the end of that and I guess that is where I am getting suck.

Old Navy Cardi Party

Being a member of CrowdTap just keeps getting better and better.  I guess it's more accurate to say being a part of the Old Navy Style Council just keeps getting better and better.  I was lucky to be selected for their Cardi Party.  Cardi Party isn't even an accurate description because not only was the sample share for me and 3 (YES! THREE!) of my friends but it included for each of us a FREE cardigan, a FREE skirt, and a FREE scarf.  Say WHAT?!  Yep, you read that right.  We ALL got a FREE cardigan, skirt and scarf.

Anyone who knows me knows I love me some FREE stuff.  Especially easy FREE stuff.  All we had to do was put together some outfits featuring those 3 items and snag some photos.  We didn't get to get as creative as we had hoped but we did what we could with what we could.  Oh, and while Old Navy, the Old Navy Style Council and CrowdTap gave me the FREE stuff all opinions are honest and my own.  I am a part of all this because I actually like Old Navy and I love the opportunities CrowdTap gives it's members so that's that.

For my "party" I chose my BFF Karie, (Duh!), my sister Georgie, and my niece Elizabeth.  Unfortunately, Elizabeth couldn't go so I decided to invite Karie's mom Debi to even out our party.  Both my sister & Debi are the same age and rarely ever go shopping for themselves.  I've been waiting for the perfect sample share to invite my sister to and this definitely was it. She stopped smoking (WOOT!) and has finally gained some much needed weight (double WOOT!) and is starting to go out and buy new clothes.  Aside from the cardigan my sister would never go out and just buy a skirt or scarf.  She'd think about it but probably wouldn't actually go and do it.  I like that this sample share made her do so.

We all met at Old Navy at 10am hoping to beat some of the shopping crowds.  It worked for a little while but eventually the dressing rooms began to fill up and it was much harder to take them over, which I totally felt like we were doing.  By the time we left the store was actually pretty busy.

I was a bit worried when we first started looking around because there wasn't much in the way of selection for skirts, and while there was a larger selection of cardigans there wasn't much in the way of sizes.  The one thing we didn't have a problem with was scarves.  Well, except that they didn't have the crocheted scarves, but really that may have been a good thing because I may not have been able to pick one otherwise.  It was hard enough without them to narrow it down to just one.

Just about all my favorite prints in the cardigans were out in my size.  There was an adorable peach polka dot one that I would have killed for but they only had it in XXL.  Luckily there was a ton of my other top choice... the grey animal print.
I realized that the grey on grey animal print doesn't work but the photo we took of this outfit with the black scarf I tried with it didn't turn out.

My sister tried the grey animal print as well, she's not one for animal print so I was excited she tried it.  I told her we could both get the grey on grey animal and be twins but she wasn't going for it. Personally, I can't blame her but don't tell her I said that.
I, also, think the print/coloring looks way better on her as well.  Sometimes sisters are such a pain in the butt!

When it came down to it I decided I loved the grey animal scarf the most out of all the scarves I tried so that left me trying to figure out what cardigan to get.  I really loved the grey animal print cardi but I finally chose an open front cardi in light grey (unfortunately, not shown online).  It was just too soft to pass up... it's like a hug when you wear it.  True story.

I managed to snag a pic wearing the navy version of the open front cardigan.   It was a hard choice between the two colors (light grey & navy) but I know I am obsessed with navy right now so I chose to go the other route for a change up.

By the time I decided against the grey animal cardi the store was too crowded and my phone refused to take any more photos.  I had asked Karie to bring her camera, I finally have to admit I lost mine, but she forgot it in her excited rush to get the party started.   So I had to wait until I cleared up some storage room on my phone & took my own photo's back at home.

Debi tried on the light grey cardigan I ended up choosing, along with my second favorite scarf.  Both were cute but not totally "Debi".

Karie was more conservative on what she tried on and stuck with only 2 cardi's (at least what was documented so maybe I missed the other ones).  She tried on the classic button cardi's in black & white.

Since there were tons of scarves to choose from (both style & color) I had the most fun trying to choose my favorite but at the same time also get something that is not like anything I currently have.  None of the other girls wear scarves much so they just stuck with a couple patterns they liked.

Scarves we liked but didn't pick...

For the skirts we had 3 different types to choose from.  The Pencil (sadly the perfect-cord pencils were not in store), the Fold Over Jersey (only black & grey) & some denim skirts (not shown online).  All the skirts we were most excited to try weren't in store.  I was the only one who found a Pencil skirt to try because they were out of every size except L and up.  Although, they weren't our favorite apparently they are popular because there were no XS, S, or M's (except in the one I tried on).

Save for Karie, we are a short bunch, all about 5'4 and under so the Pencil skirts were a weird length for us.  The denim skirts were almost the same length but a bit shorter so they looked a bit better.  Two of us ended up with the denim skirts and the other two ended up with the Fold Over Jersey skirts.

So when all was said and done here is the outfits we took home.

Karie
Woman's Fold-Over Jersey Skirt in Dark Heather Grey
None of the colors Karie picked were "normal" Karie colors so I was proud of her for trying something different.  I love the outfit, and I love the color scheme, and even though it's not her "normal" it is still a very Karie outfit.

Debi
Woman's Printed Scarf in purple not online
Woman's Button-Front Stretch Cardi in Purple Majesty
Woman's Denim Skirt not online
Purple is Debi's color.  The cardi and scarf go perfectly together and with the denim skirt I think it is a totally cute, stylish and fun outfit.

Georgie
Infinity scarf in Black & Grey Striped not online
Woman's Ribbed Open-Front Cardigan in Black not online
Woman's Fold-Over Jersey Skirt in Light Grey
I love the outfit my sister picked.  It looks great on her.  Aside from the cardi, it is not an outfit she would normally ever wear, style-wise or color-wise.  I can't wait to see what else she pairs each piece with.

Me
Woman's Ribbed Open-Front Cardi in Light Grey not online
Woman's Denim skirt not online
I don't think anything I got was a surprise to anyone.  The scarf was the only thing I had my eye on going in but the other pieces aren't really out of my norm.  Of course, considering almost half of my closet is Old Navy, it's hard to go outside of my norm when shopping there.

Now if it would only cool down because I can't wait to wear my new outfit with my grey boots.  Come on Fall, hurry up and get here!!

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted

Thanks to Crowdtap I was able to go to a prescreening of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted last weekend.

Not only did I get to go but I was able to have a plus 1.  While I do love me some cartoon movies (especially Disney/Pixar) I don't usually go to the movie theater to see them.  The last cartoon I went to see in theater was...Horton Hears A Who and that was because my (great) niece & nephew specifically asked me to go.  I had about 6 "age appropriate" candidates to choose from to be my date.  My top 3 choices (based on how excited they would be to see the movie) couldn't go, which was a major bummer since their excitement was what made me want to see the movie.  I lucked out though because my niece Elizabeth wanted to go (which I would have never ever had guessed) and was just as excited (if not more excited) even though she's 25 years old.

Elizabeth & me

What made the prospect of going to the prescreening even more fun was the fact that one of my BFF's is also a Crowdtap member and was selected to go with her plus one (her 5 year old daughter).  Fun quality time with one of your favorite people is pretty cool... but fun quality time with three of your favorite people is awesome!

Crystal & Bug

I've heard there was a lot of confusion & miscommunication at some of the other events in different states but we were extremely lucky and didn't have a problem.  I can see how it could have/would have been confusing though.  There were lines outside the theater, lines inside the theater and not always clearly marked places/people you needed to see to get entrance.  Again, we were lucky and figured it out fairly easy.

Upon entering the theater there was a large event table in front of one of the designated theaters, a smaller event table in front of another designated theater, and a corner set up specifically to entertain the little "Zoosters".  That corner was filled with penguins.  Let me say that again...PENGUINS!  Real.  Live.  PENGUINS!!

I'm pretty sure they were of the Magellanic Penguin variety.  There was two of them and they were awesome!  They were behind a plexiglass set up with two wranglers and all the little kids could go and sit right up in front of the plexiglass and hang out.  I seriously considered skipping the movie and hanging out with the penguins instead.

Bug & the PENGUINS!

I didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted with the Penguins nor did I manage to grab a photo for myself because we ended up in the worst. concession. line. EVER!  The lady in front of us was ordering for at least 10 (no exaggeration!) and it was the slowest process ever.  By the time we got to our designated theater (the small one) there was no good seats where the 4 of us could sit together, so we sat in the middle of the 2nd row.

On our way into the theater we discovered that we were seeing the 3D version.  I know the movie poster (which I got from the Crowdtap site) says 3D but I never picked up on that prior to going to the movie.  I was extremely nervous about being in the 2nd row (I got sea sick while sitting there when I went to see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian -as a chaperon for a b-day party-) and especially since it was 3D.  Luckily, I had no problems.

The movie was cute and exactly what most cartoons are... extremely silly.  It still had a good message threaded through the zoosters adventures.  I haven't seen that much florescent colors since I was a child in the 80's.  I am not a dabbler in the psychedelic drugs (or any drugs for that matter) but I'm guessing a trip would totally feel like watching half of this movie.  All in all it kept all the kids around us entertained, and I assume all the kids not around us.  The penguins are probably still my favorite of the zooster group but they strictly provide the comic moments and don't have to do any of the heavy lifting the other central characters have to.  It's a perfect silly movie to go take your kids to see this summer.

2012 Goal: Quarterly Update #1

With April here I figured I needed to check and see how I was doing on my 2012 Goals.

#1.  I am well into my goal to wear each pair of shoes I have (at least once).  I'm at 27 of 49 on my shoes and 1 of 23 on my flip flops.  I've actually worn more but some days I totally forget to document my "new" shoes.

I've worn several pairs of flips but only have documented one.  Now that it's warming up I'll be wearing them more so documentation should be easier to remember.  It seems that I started making a collage but never finish uploading it.  It actually happens more than you would think.  I start, get busy, remember late in the evening, start again and then fall asleep during the process.  Guess it's a good thing I'm not getting paid for this sort of thing.  I'd go hungry a lot otherwise.

Standing: Good.

#2. Get rid of things...sounds so easy but really when it comes down to it it's a lot harder than one would think.  I've cleaned out my closet a bit, as well as my dresser drawers.  I could certainly go through both a few more times (and probably will) but I have a good sized box of stuff I'm getting rid of.  I just need to start going through the part of my closets that aren't clothes.  The storage part of the closets is what really needs to be gone through. Man, I have to admit I dread that process.

Standing: Ok.

#3.  Go on a date... Yeah.  Does thinking about it count?  What about talking about it?  It should count a little.  I whole heartily had the intention to follow through but circumstances beyond my control got in the way.  I could have been more proactive but... sometimes those circumstances kick the shit out of you and being proactive has less to do with follow up and more to do with survival.

Could of.  Should of.  Would of.  Whatever.

Standing: Bad.

#4. Sew a 50's style dress.  I've come to realize that this goal is going to be pretty hard.  See... I don't own a sewing machine.  I do, however, have a sister who owns a sewing machine.  One I am not allowed to touch.  It's a bit of a bummer and a bit of a relief.  I mean, the thought of me operating a machine that's main function is fast moving needles... I sort of shudder at the thought.

I'm sure my sis would be happy to sew the dress for me and let me do all the other stuff.  Okay, really she'd have to help me figure out how to cut the pattern since I don't know how jack about sewing and patterns make about as much sense as when I look at a map...seriously how does that stuff make sense?!  She totally allows me to play with scissors...just not sewing machines.  It's probably a wise decision on her part.

I'm sure if I paid to have her old machine fixed she'd show me on that one but we (my niece and I) are not allowed to touch her new prettypretty sewing machine.  It's really not a personal thing against me or my lack of sewing knowledge.  At least no much.

I...er...we did do a DYI dress I found on Pinterest though.
Georgie (my sister) my seamstress.

The dress actually needs to be fixed before wearing.  Try and learn, right?!  I didn't cut the tank short enough so it's a bit weird.  To fix the weird waist part we just need to make a thicker belt.  I just need to go get the fabric and have my sister sew it up.  I absolutely love the way the skirt feels though.  Even if it hadn't turned out I've only spend $3 on the dress so far.  Okay, $4 counting the elastic thread I bought.  I'd say another $1 for the additional fabric.  So in total $5, not bad right?!  Especially considering I would have thrown out or given away the tank I used.

I'm actually excited to do another one in a maxi style.  I've been trying to find fabric to match purple or pink since I have a few tanks in each color but it's near impossible.  I found a black tank at Target on sale for $5 so I snagged it with the intention of using it for the maxi dress.  I would think black would make finding coordinating fabric easier but who knows.

Standing: Good,  I did do A dress.

#5. Finally making myself my no sew fleece blanket.

Standing: Bad.

#6. Get new glasses.

Standing: Bad.

#7.  Visit Bearizona.

Standing: Bad but Bearizona actually just reopened this month.

As first quarters go I'm thinking I'm not doing too bad.  I definitely needs to kick some of the goals into gear if I want to get anywhere with them by end of year.  Considering how crappy this year has been so far I'm going to give the overall standing of my 2012 Goals a Good though.
