1.  Over this labor day weekend I will be driving up to Eagar with Irish to visit Crystal & fam (they moved up there about a month ago).  I'm excited & a bit nervous at the same time.  I'll be introducing them for the first time & it will be mine & Irish's first trip together.

2.  With the political debates going on right now, my thoughts are that I should be paying more attention to it all.  And by more I mean start paying attention to it all.  All the political BS between the parties & those running is far too annoying to me & it distracts from the issues.

3.  Today has been loooong and it's not even close to being over.  I am working on almost 4 hours of sleep so that's not helping.  Luckily it's Friday.

4. The best thing I've cooked recently was BLT salad.  Soooo good & perfect for Summer.

5. The last thing I bought was gas & oil.

6. The best movie I saw this summer was um...The Avengers.

7.  The best book I read this summer was Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts.

Once

So I finally got around to watching the Irish musical film "Once", which was released in 2007.  I've wanted to see it since it came out but never got around to it.  It won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Foreign Film, had the song "Falling Slowly" receive an Academy Award for Best Original Song and was turned into a Broadway play last year.  Seems I'm always more than fashionably late to some things.  I've seen "Once" in the library and grabbed it once but the disc was missing.  When I was out sick last week I was able to finally get it but never got around to watching it until this weekend.  

When Irish came over to pick me up for our second date he saw it and commented that he used to live on the street in the film.  I'd totally forgot it was a foreign film or that it was an Irish one at that. Coincidences are so amusing sometimes.  Either way I think I scored some extra points with Irish for having it.  

It was about 20 minutes into the movie when I completely fell in love with it.  The Irishness of it all didn't hurt but it is honestly a brilliant & beautiful film.  The talent of the two leads (Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova) is amazing and the music they make together is so raw (Glen), haunting (Marketa) and beautiful.  

Seeing the film & hearing the music has changed my life.  Overly dramatic.  Probably.  It is just a film and music.  But it's a power film & music.  I made a Glen Hansard station on Pandora and there has not been one song I've not liked or have skipped over since programming it in Sunday, and I've listen to it every morning & evening since then.  Out of my 25+ Pandora stations that's never happened before.  

I've found so many amazing artists from that station.  Between my 3 FREE weekly MP3 downloads from the library & $5 Amazon money (thank you music surveys!) I now have 8 new songs... 7 of which are favorites off my new Pandora station.

I think aside from Glen Hansard (the "Once" soundtrack, The Frames & The Swell Season) of course, that Iron and Wine, and Ray LaMontagne are my most favorite new musical loves.  I've been circling around Ray LaMontagne but just sort of found other music to buy & concentrate on.  And I know, it's shameful but I'm not sure how I have gone so long not having Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah".  After this week I totally HAD. TO. HAVE. IT.

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted

Thanks to Crowdtap I was able to go to a prescreening of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted last weekend. 

Not only did I get to go but I was able to have a plus 1.  While I do love me some cartoon movies (especially Disney/Pixar) I don't usually go to the movie theater to see them.  The last cartoon I went to see in theater was...Horton Hears A Who and that was because my (great) niece & nephew specifically asked me to go.  I had about 6 "age appropriate" candidates to choose from to be my date.  My top 3 choices (based on how excited they would be to see the movie) couldn't go, which was a major bummer since their excitement was what made me want to see the movie.  I lucked out though because my niece Elizabeth wanted to go (which I would have never ever had guessed) and was just as excited (if not more excited) even though she's 25 years old.

What made the prospect of going to the prescreening even more fun was the fact that one of my BFF's is also a Crowdtap member and was selected to go with her plus one (her 5 year old daughter).  Fun quality time with one of your favorite people is pretty cool... but fun quality time with three of your favorite people is awesome!

Crystal & Bug

I've heard there was a lot of confusion & miscommunication at some of the other events in different states but we were extremely lucky and didn't have a problem.  I can see how it could have/would have been confusing though.  There were lines outside the theater, lines inside the theater and not always clearly marked places/people you needed to see to get entrance.  Again, we were lucky and figured it out fairly easy.  


Upon entering the theater there was a large event table in front of one of the designated theaters, a smaller event table in front of another designated theater, and a corner set up specifically to entertain the little "Zoosters".  That corner was filled with penguins.  Let me say that again...PENGUINS!  Real.  Live.  PENGUINS!!


I'm pretty sure they were of the Magellanic Penguin variety.  There was two of them and they were awesome!  They were behind a plexiglass set up with two wranglers and all the little kids could go and sit right up in front of the plexiglass and hang out.  I seriously considered skipping the movie and hanging out with the penguins instead.

I didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted with the Penguins nor did I manage to grab a photo for myself because we ended up in the worst. concession. line. EVER!  The lady in front of us was ordering for at least 10 (no exaggeration!) and it was the slowest process ever.  By the time we got to our designated theater (the small one) there was no good seats where the 4 of us could sit together, so we sat in the middle of the 2nd row.  


On our way into the theater we discovered that we were seeing the 3D version.  I know the movie poster (which I got from the Crowdtap site) says 3D but I never picked up on that prior to going to the movie.  I was extremely nervous about being in the 2nd row (I got sea sick while sitting there when I went to see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian -as a chaperon for a b-day party-) and especially since it was 3D.  Luckily, I had no problems.  


The movie was cute and exactly what most cartoons are... extremely silly.  It still had a good message threaded through the zoosters adventures.  I haven't seen that much florescent colors since I was a child in the 80's.  I am not a dabbler in the psychedelic drugs (or any drugs for that matter) but I'm guessing a trip would totally feel like watching half of this movie.  All in all it kept all the kids around us entertained, and I assume all the kids not around us.  The penguins are probably still my favorite of the zooster group but they strictly provide the comic moments and don't have to do any of the heavy lifting the other central characters have to.  It's a perfect silly movie to go take your kids to see this summer.

Thursday Latelies #5

This week has been busy and when I haven't been busy I've been extremely lazy.  So I have no video for today's installment of Thursday Latelies.  I fell asleep at 8:30 instead of doing what I should have been doing...finishing laundry & vlogging. 

This week I've been having fun with nail polish.  To prove I've been paying attention to trends (via Bex, a Style Diary & Rose a La Mode) I decided to try painting my nails in the different color fashion that is going around, the one where you paint all your nails one color but your ring finger you paint a different complimentary color.

My camera was dead when I first painted all these so I used my phone camera.  Not the best quality but it gives you the idea.  I'm really loving the Right Said Red color!  It also goes on super smooth.  The coral color, even though the same brand, doesn't.  It's weird.  I don't think I've painted my finger nails this much in...well, ever.  The first set I did Friday night.  I changed colors Saturday night and then did it again Monday night.  They need to be redone but I haven't had time.  I'm so rough on my hands they chip right away so after a day or two they are trashed!

I took Bex's advise last week and grabbed myself some Garnier Skin Renew Anti Sun-Damage Daily Moisture Lotion ($11.97 via Walmart).  I've been using it since Sunday and I love it!  Since I've been having problems with Avon reps lately I ran out of my

ANEW REJUVENATE Day Revitalizing Cream SPF 25 and instead of trying to find a new rep who sells online (for the 4th) time I decided to just grab something from the store.  I originally grabbed the Target brand Up & Up's version of Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer, they had the exact same ingredients so I went with the version that was on sale ($10.99).  I haven't loved it.  It's too thick and has the consistency & smell of thick sun tan lotion.  My skin hasn't hated it but it hasn't loved it either.  Since switching to the Garnier moisturizer my face is so happy!  It's light and smells great and keeps my skin moisturized all day.  I don't know if it's helped with my complexion or skin tone yet but I'm betting it will.

Karie, Sharon and I went to see Water for Elephants at the dollar movies Tuesday.  What a phenomenal movie!  Through the whole movie I was waiting for an unhappy ending but I was pleasantly surprised when it had a happy ending.  It's still a sad movie but one that didn't go the way I thought it would.  I, obviously, haven't read the book but it'll go on my "one day" reading list.

I've become THAT Aunt...

You know the one.  The weird, goofy & quirky one. 

Not sure why I'm surprised by the fact.  Not that I am actually all that surprised.  I've been called both weird & quirky.  Oh, and goofy.  A lot.  As far back as high school, as a matter of fact.  So maybe not so surprised. 

Except for the fact that my nephew called me weird.  Or was it goofy?  Same difference really.  I'm always aware of what my friends think of me but I never really know what my nieces & nephews think of me.  At least, not most of them.  I always know what my niece, Elizabeth, thinks of me but that's not too hard...she's always speaking her mind.  God love her for it!

While I was hanging with the fam in UT (have I mentioned for 7 GLORIOUS days) we got to talking about who would play each of us if a movie were made of our family.  See my nephew, Jesse, is going to Columbia University (School of the Arts) & wants to be a director so naturally we'd end up talking about him filming a movie about our great & interesting family. 

Some people picked who they wanted to play themselves...or other people; like my sister, Beth, chose Brad Pitt to play her husband John.  My 7(?) year old niece, Sarah, would play her self as she is a HAM and would love to play it up on screen.  I couldn't figure out who would be a good me so I asked Jesse who he would cast as Aunt Kerri.  His answer...Parker Posey.  Hum...okay.  I sat on it a while but finally had to ask why.  His reasoning..."She's weird/goofy.  You're weird/goofy."  Fair enough, I guess. 

She's a bit older than I am but it's Hollywood and age doesn't matter.  40 year olds play high school students so why not have an actress play 10 year younger.  When I think Park Posey I think Blade:Trinity (LOVED that movie!) and The Sweetest Thing. 

Then I think..."My God am I that weird/goofy?!" 

Why, yes, I guess I am...especially in the eyes of my nieces & nephews.  Who I act super goofy & silly around.  My nieces & nephews range in age from 33 to 7(?) and my great nieces & nephews range from 16 to 16(?) months (actually 4{?} months in utero).

I know, I am a horrible aunt!  All this (?) is because I am not sure on the exact age.  I should know because I asked enough while up there but I really suck at numbers.  I flip them.  Switch them.  Forget them.  Whatever I can do with them.  All but remember them.  My brain isn't wired for numbers (IE math).

I don't know if I will ever see the movies I haven't seen yet.  Some of them do not sound interesting, which is why I haven't seen them.  Others I have never heard of.  Maybe I'll pick some to watch so I can move my number to 50.  I could be happy with knowing I've seen half of a 100 movie list.  Then again, I could also be happy with my current number of 42.  In fact, I think I am happy with my number of 42.

70 years of staying classy

I AM SO EXCITED!  Probably overly so but I don't care.  I was SO EXCITED last night that I WAS ACTUALLY TALKING LIKE THIS!  SO. EXCITED! 

Don't worry.  I was in Ross right before closing.  Not too embarrising for the CRAZY PERSON BEING OVERLY! EXCITED!

I was spending the evening with my friend Sharon (who's actually my ex-high school boyfriends mom...we've been friends since then even though he & I have not.  Yes, HARD CORE.) having dinner (local Mexican joint which is AWESOME!) and going to Ulta.  We ended up walking the plaza and window shopping.  At least, until we wandered into Ross.  There was no window shopping what I found.  I HAD to buy it.

I've seen it advertised anywhere from $69.99 (on Amazon) to being on sale for $50 something elsewhere (WB).  $29.99 is super awesome, is it not?!  I figured if I'd go buy just the DVD it'd be $19.99 so I spent $10 for all the extras.  I don't care about the watch or some of the other stuff but the book is interesting & the additional film footage & behind the scenes footage is totally worth $10.  I have yet to see it but come on...it's the Wizard of Oz.  Total classic.

I was so giddy last night when I ran across it.  It was the only one (of course).  I, also, finally got Batman Returns for $3.99.  I'm good on entertainment for at least the end of the month when I leave for vacation. 

Sharon was impressed too so I don't feel like too big of a dork but she sort of loves me so maybe we are two dorks in a pod. 

Anyway, it's a super awesome find right??

Fill in the Blank #4

It seems like I just did a Fill in the Blank.  This week went by fast thanks to Memorial Day.  Than again, in many ways this week went by pretty dang slow.  Either way I am soooo happy it's Friday!  I need to get out from behind my work desk.  You know, because working 4 days two weeks in a row is hard business. 

I don't have a whole bunch of awesome plans planned but I'm looking foward to being able to clean my apartment and spend time with the cats.  Sunday's plans are sort of awesome.  I'm meeting up with my friend Crystal and her family.  It's weird to say "my friend".  She is totally my friend but I've always just referred to her as Will's Sister-In-Law.  My friend makes more sence now.  Anyway, they're coming over to go swimming & have dinner.  Also, so I can see their girls.  I totally miss them so much!  Plus, Bug has been wanting to see my kitten.  I don't know if she's going to be all that happy that my kitten is now 10 lbs of almost full cat size fun.

1. I love  my best friend, Karie because  she is always there for me, no matter what.  She tells it to me straight… she tells me when I’m right, she tells me when I’m wrong and she tells me when I’m being an idiot.  She celebrates with me & is sad with me. She is jus awesome! 

2.  A time that mama knew best was  when she gave me to my grandparents when I was 6 to raise.

3. My first kiss went a little like this  I was 16 and we had been dating for a while.  We were sitting outside talking in his car after our date.  He leaned over to kiss me and I burst into uncontrolable laughter.  I appologized profusely and we tried it again.  Again I burst into laughter.  Finally I just leaned over, kissed him and jumped out of the car and ran to the door.  Sadly, not much has changed since then in my romantic smoothness.

4. My celebrity crush is sort of a long list.  Currently, my two majors are Zachery LeviI and Ryan Reynolds.  Oh, and Paul Walker. I, also, have the major HOTTS for Jensen Ackles & Ben Affleck but I try not to lust after married men.

5. My splurge of choice is the make-up and face products I use. I don’t go crazy or anything but I could use cheaper & easier to get products.  I use BareMinerals make-up and Avon for all my face products (face wash, moisturizer, eye cream, dermabrasion & retexturizing peel).

6. My biggest accomplishment is lately I haven’t really felt like I’ve had any accomplishments. Calling Pitty Party of One, I know but it’s not really like that.  Too much.

7. My dance jam of choice is  usually something from the Black Eyed Peas but most of the time anything that’s got a beat to it when I’m in the mood to shake it works.

I love shopping for FREE!

I just went on what I consider a spending spree on Amazon.  I got 1 DVD set and 3 CD's for FREE.  Super cool, right!  At least, I think so!

Somehow someway I ended up joining Research.FM.  If you qualify & complete a radio music survey you get a $5 gift certificate to Amazon.  It's been so long that I honestly can't remember how long I've been doing it or, as said before, any of the details how.  All I know is within the last month or two I've gotten a lot of survey notices and been able to complete most of them.   In total I've been paid $65 in Amazon gift certificates. 

I finally got some cash built up at Crowdtap so I donated some to my charity (American Red Cross) and got the rest on an Amazon gift certificate.  

I figured with all the $ in GC's to Amazon I should check things out.  I first went and looked at what was still sitting in my Wish List.  Since I've been looking for some new tunes I decided to finally grab some of the CD's I'd been wanting and to order a couple new CD's that are brand new.  I then checked the pricing on a DVD set that I needed to replace and since the price was good & would end up being FREE I figured a "spending spree" was in order.

Getting To Know You...er, Me! #2

1. have you ever gone to see a movie by yourself?
Yes, I have.  I started about 3 or so years ago.  I didn't do it often while I was in a relationship but now that I am single again I think I will start doing so again.  I actually like it. 



2. would you rather go through a tornado or a hurricane?

I'm thinking a hurricane but I honestly don't know.  I have more of a chance of experiencing a tornado here in AZ than a hurricane but even then it's a very slim chance.  It seems like there is far more warning time with hurricanes than there is with tornado's. 

3. have you made summer vacation plans?

Yes, this week(end) I'll be in Disneyland.  Then in July I'll be in Utah for my family reunion. 

4. what's your favorite accessory?

In the answers on the host's site she said (can't be jewelry) and if that's the case I don't have an answer.  Except I guess I do because I love scarves.  I can't wear them for most of spring and not at all in the summer, probably part of fall too.  It's just too hot for scarves in AZ most of the time, thought that does not stop me from loving them anyway.

5. have you ever been thrown a surprise party?

Yes, I think so but I can't really remember what for.  It might have been by my BFF for a grade school or Jr. High b-day.

6. are you friends with your neighbors?

No, it's too hard to make friends in apartments.  At least, at the apartments I've lived in.  Most are too annoying to want to be friends with. 

My current neighbors are men and the ones I see avoid me like the plague and the other one is either a vampire or the invisible man because I NEVER see him.  I've heard him but only seen him the day (night) he moved in.

My first apartments ended up housing the Mesa Serial Shooters so I am a bit leery of neighbors now.  They lived in the apartment next to my old 1 bedroom apartment (in the back) before I transferred to a 2 bedroom (up front).

7. what's the last movie you saw in the theater?

Something Borrowed.  It didn't have your typical romantic comedy ending.  I'm still not sure how I felt about the movie.  I liked it for the most part...I was funny...but I didn't like the ending.  Overall I felt (and still feel) very unsatisfied by the ending.

8. what's your favorite food network show?

I've never watched anything on the Food Network.  Food shows just make me hungry and frustrated.  I'm not the kind of person who is going to go try & cook what they just saw on the show.
