One more push
This Saturday, Gavin Degraw will be departing for Uganda to spend a week going to refugee camps to hand deliver the Malaria bed nets to those in need.
So far Gavin’s team has raised $6,360 for Nothing But Nets, that’s 85% of their goal. Gavin and his team need your help to reach their $7,500 goal amount. Please go donate at least $10 for those in need.
The current Net-O-Meter is at 2,502,550 nets. That is a lot of protection for those who need it but not enough and we can do better than that.
Please stay tuned for pictures, videos, and very special blogs directly from each camp that he visits. To keet track go to his news page.

30 days to go....(after today ends at least)
What started out as me dragging Karie along so I didn't have to see Gavin Degraw alone (and my sneaky way of forcing her to listen to "new" music) when he comes to Martini Ranch April 5th has now turned into a group of 5. Me, Karie, Tia, Nicole and Jessica.
I asked Tia after the Jack's Mannequin (with Matt Nathanson) show was cancelled since she wanted to accompany us to that and I thought on our re-meet outing that she said she liked Gavin Degraw when he came up in conversation. I'm excited for her to hang out with all of us but I'm afraid my super spaz persona that comes out at concerts (and the whole day of) may scare her off (all invited were warned with an FYI warning, btw). If not then I've got a new concert buddy, one who actually knows who I'm talking about and why I'm excited. Not that Karie isn't a good concert buddy because she totally is. She'll go and do whatever I ask her to do. She'll even "study" before the concert when I make her and when she's at the concert you'd never guess she'd only just heard of whoever is playing and wasn't originally a lifelong fan. Reason #85496 she's been my BFF for over 20 years.
Nicole & Jessica were supposed to go to the Gavin Degraw concert with me when he was at the Marquee back in September. Things didn't work out but I'm glad Jeni got to go with me, especially since she genuinely likes Gavin because it gave us something fun to "bond" over. Plus, it made Nick happy that we spent at least some time outside "family time" together while he was over in Iraq. Anyway, I asked Nicole if she was interested in going to see Gavin this time and she jumped at the chance. Jessica basically fell in line after that...I mean we all sort of ganged up on her. Peer pressure...does friends and family good. Not that she isn't a Gavin Degraw fan or excited about the concert. She's just more neutral about music...something I will never get about her and Karie.
I haven't gone to a concert with a group since Sarah, Karie, Jessica and I went to see Madonna back in '06. I'm very excited for various reasons... a) I get to share something I love with some of my favorite people. b) There is strength in numbers, which means a lot when there is a large crowd of people who are just as excited and spastic as you are about Gavin FREAKING Degraw. c) We all have fun together and even though Tia is new and unknown to both Jess & Nicole and Karie hasn't seen her in 17 years I know it won't matter.

Another good cause...VH1 Save The Music Foundation
The VH1 Save The Music Foundation was founded in 1997 as a public affairs initiative of the VH1 network. The Foundation’s core mission is to restore instrumental music education programs, ensuring that every child has access to a complete education that includes the benefits of music instruction. Since its inception, The Foundation has remained faithful to and focused on making our mission come to life. Now a 501(c) (3) not for profit organization, The Foundation continues working in close affiliation with its parent network. Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President and General Manager of VH1 serves as the current chairman of The Foundation’s Board of Directors. Each of the past heads of the Network have served in this capacity including, Christina Norman and John Sykes.
The inspiration for The Foundation grew out of John Sykes’s volunteer experience as Principal for a Day at the Brooklyn, New York public school, PS 58 - The Carroll School. John saw first-hand how the students in the music program at PS 58 were struggling due to the great need for musical instruments and he was inspired to dig deeper into the problem and learn more about the benefits a student receives from studying a musical instrument.
As we examined the music education system throughout the nation, we found that music education is not only important for its intrinsic value, but research consistently demonstrated that students who study an instrument enhance their critical thinking skills and their ability to work together as a team. They are more engaged in school and less likely to drop out; and they do significantly better in all of their academic endeavors. Upon seeing the facts about the benefits of music education in a young person’s life, VH1 started The Foundation. Since that visionary moment, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation has proudly restored over 1,600 instrumental music programs in more than 100 cities nationwide, putting instruments into the hands of 1.2 million children. The Foundation is able to make grants of music education programs because of the generous support from its corporate sponsors, foundations, individuals and partners.

Support a good cuase - Nothing But Nets
Nothing But Nets is a grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. While the UN Foundation has been working with the UN to fight malaria for years, it was a column that Rick Reilly wrote about malaria in Sports Illustrated, challenging each of his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed nets -- and the incredible response from thousands of Americans across the country -- that led to the creation of the Nothing But Nets campaign.
The reaction to Reilly's 815 words made clear that thousands of people were ready to help the million children dying unnecessarily each year of malaria. Within a few short months, Nothing But Nets raised over 1 million dollars. And so Nothing But Nets was born.
The UN Foundation has now partnered with groups as diverse as National Basketball Association’s NBA Cares, The People of the United Methodist Church and Sports Illustrated to bring Nothing But Nets to the American public. These Founding Partners are joined by corporate, multi-media and financial partners to make a significant impact by raising awareness and funds to purchase and distribute bed nets and save lives.
Now, we're asking you to help spread the word about Nothing But Nets, and how easy it is to protect children from malaria with bed nets. You can save a family. Your church, school, or team can save a village. Together, we can cover Africa with life-saving bed nets.
How it worksNothing But Nets is powered by your passion; it works because you do! Create a community for your church, school, team, or family and friends. Together, you can spread the word, raise funds, and share your stories.
With the money you raise, the UN Foundation and its partners work with the Measles Initiative – one of the most successful vaccination efforts ever undertaken – to purchase bed nets and distribute them in countries and communities in greatest need.
Using its proven distribution system – which in just five years has vaccinated nearly a quarter billion children – the Measles Initiative will distribute bed nets along with measles vaccinations and other medicines to at-risk countries. It’s an effective and cost-efficient way to get the nets to the people who need them.
