Awkwardly Awesome

Ever feel like you are totally behind and will never catch up?

Seriously, that's how I've been feeling for the past couple of weeks.  I have ideas in my head to post about but I never seem to get around to actually doing it.  Well today I'm going to play a bit of catch up.

Hopefully.

The three things I'm going to share are pretty much epically awkward so bare with me.

Fist off, I wanted to update you on a little trend I've been noticing lately.  Remington and Cyrus have been getting along.  Yes, you heard me right.  REMINGTON AND CYRUS HAVE BEEN GETTING ALONG.  At least for small spats of time.  Anyone who has been in the same room as those two know what an EPIC feat it is.  No matter how small of a time they are actually not at each others necks.  Or more, Remington isn't at poor Cyrus' neck.

I even have proof...

Remington & Cyrus sleeping on the couch (my  "new" one)

This is the shot right before things get dicey...

Remington wakes up (OF COURSE) AND while adorably cute (at this exact moment)...

He has to ruin it by flopping over and attacking Cyrus.

I have no more photo's of the two because all HELL broke loose & I was run over by two furry blurs before I could shoot another picture.

I've tried to take more photo's of Remington to catalogue how big he's getting but he won't stay still long enough.  Every photo I get is a massive blur.  Definitely not worth the space it takes up (anywhere).

Trying to photograph cats usually ends up with some rather  awkward and seriously horrible photos.  Probably the same results as if it were another pet, such as a dog.  Or kids.

Secondly, I am pen paling with Diana over at DianaPantz.  I love her shop.  I love her blog.  I basically love her...in the I don't know her but I "stalk" her on the blogverse & we send each other things in the mail kind of way.  Anyway, in her last letter she asked what I did craft wise & if I had a shop.  Sadly, I do not consider myself a crafter.  Not even a crafty person.  That would be a far too liberal term.  I am a non-crafty person who has short whims of craftiness.  Sometimes.  So there is definitely no shop!

Instead of just answering her like I did above I got a wild hair and decided to show her "my craft".  The kind of craft I do do when I get a crafty whim or inspiration.  I am not someone who can sit down and just craft.  I need inspiration and most times a reason for crafting.

Usually, people inspire ideas and I then channel that inspiration into something.  99.9 % of the time it's into a birdhouse I decorate.  Really, that's what I do.  I take a pre-made birdhouse, paint it and glue some crap onto it.  Don't get me wrong, there are birdhouses out there that I am pretty damn proud of (like the one I glued river rocks & sand to...yes, SAND...SO NOT EASY!) but I just don't think I'm that crafty for doing them.

Anyway, I had some leftover supplies from past projects and a lot of time on my hands.  I was trying to figure out how to answer Diana's question when I was hit by an idea.  See Diana is a vegan.  I had leftover (scrap booking) fruits & bee's (buttons) and decided she needed a picnic themed birdhouse.  All I needed was some red checked scrap booking paper & some ants.  Can I just say that finding ants in the craft world right now is near impossible.  I ended up having to make them myself out of little black dots.  Okay, that sort of sounds crafty.  Hum.

Anyway, here is the end result....

It turned out better than I expected when I was trying to glue it all together.  The little ant buggers were hard!  They are sticky on back but I try to glue sticky sided stuff on anyway because it tends to fall off.  I am now sporting a new scar on my finger from a fight I got into with my glue gun.  All I can say is at least I wasn't using Crazy Glue, we are even bigger enemies than me & my hot glue gun.

Per her blog post (here) Diana liked it, calling it sweet & cute.  Far more than I expected.  I've never given a birdhouse to anyone who wasn't a friend or family and HAD to love it.  She didn't have to post about it but she did and, while it sounds like I'm tooting my own horn, I am happy she did.  I like it when people like what I force give them.  Makes it less awkward and weird if they do, ya know.

Here's a pic of the bird house in its new home @ DianaPantz.
Someone even commented on her post that "the birdhouse is adorable"... that really made me happy.  The commenter didn't have to like it at all since it wasn't given to her, she doesn't know me & isn't a friend or family.

So I may not be a crafts person but I guess I can be crafty.

Last but not least, the most awkward part of this post...

The part where I post more awkward & horrible pictures of myself & my clothes.

I received a $20 gift card for Old Navy in the mail Saturday so I went shopping Sunday.  I had two things on my list to get (if possible)...jean shorts that weren't Bermuda or shorty shorts and a maxi dress.  I lucked out in both departments and got two shirts to boot.

Aside from going to Old Navy & grabbing some food from Wendy's on the way home I did nothing Sunday.  It was a nice lazy day.  Hence, the horrible hairdo.  I didn't shower & went out with a hat on as to not scare anyone.

Between the gift card & a discount card I had I think I got some great things for some great prices!

Shorts:  (orig $19.50) $10.99
Tank: (Orig $17.50, clearance $4.99) $2.81 each

I got the tank in both navy & coral.  How could I not get more than one for $4.99?  At $2.81 I'd have grabbed one in every color...which is basically what I did since there was only 2 colors.  Hah.

The shorts were the only jean shorts (in the length I was looking for) in store and they were in my size... double score!

Maxi dress (orig $37.50) $16.92
Hot pink Forever 21 tank  $2.99

I've wanted a maxi dress FOREVER but I could never find one that fit my body right or that was in a price range I was willing to pay.  I should have known Old Navy would have at least one that would fit me.

The only thing though, if you'll notice, is that its about 5 inches too long.  I'm 5'4ish.  Even with a couple inch wedged flip flops it was still too long until I figured out a way to fix the length by shortening the ties.  When all was said and done it was like an inch or two too long.  Not totally tripable when walking and as long as I held up one side when stepping up there was no tripping.   It did get stuck/ran over by my roller chair at work.  Oops.  No damage, no foul...right??  I am going to see if my sister can hem the bottom a bit so I don't kill myself.

I like that it's black so I can wear whatever color I want under it.  I love the straps because the under tank shows through the ropes.  I don't know why but it's cool.  I love that even though it's too long it doesn't make me look like I'm 2 feet high & stumpy.  You'd think long dresses/skirts would make a short person look longer/taller but not so much most of the time.  You really have to watch the way an item fits, sits & whatever else or it will somehow shorten you.

So now on to trying to catch up on other things...
